        Welcome to the official web site of the Second International Conference on Enterprise Systems (ES 2014). The First InternationalConference on Enterprise Systems  was successfully held in Cape Town, South Africa. We are proud to announce that ES 2014 will be held in Shanghai, China, 2-3 August 2014, at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. 

        ES 2014 is co-sponsored by the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Technical Committee on Enterprise Information Systems, IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Technical Committee on Enterprise Architecture and Engineering, IFIP TC 8 WG8.9, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Enterprise Information Systems journal published by Taylor & Francis, and other institutions. 

        Shanghai is the largest city by population in China and the largest city proper by population in the world, with a total population of over 23 million as of 2010. It is a global financial center, and a transport hub with the world’s busiest container port. Shanghai has been described as the showcase of the booming economy of China. The city has various nicknames in English including "Pearl of the Orient" and "Paris of the East". 

        Shanghai is the commercial and financial center of China, and ranks fifth in the 2011 edition of the Global Financial Centres Index published by the City of London. In 2009, the Shanghai Stock Exchange ranked third among worldwide stock exchanges in terms of trading volume and sixth in terms of the total capitalization of listed companies, and the trading volume of six key commodities including rubber, copper and zinc on the Shanghai Futures Exchange all ranked first in the world. Shanghai Port is the world's busiest container port, which handled 29.05 million TEUs in 2010. 

        Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, Yu Garden, as well as over 700 skylines and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum. 

        Shanghai is one of the leading air transport gateways in Asia. The city has two commercial airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Shanghai has an extensive public transport system. Shanghai's rapid transit system, the Shanghai Metro incorporates both subway and light railway lines and extends to every core urban district as well as neighboring suburban districts. As of 2010, there are twelve metro lines including the Shanghai Maglev Train, about 300 stations and over 400 km of tracks in operation, making it the third longest network in the world. 

        The number of conferences held in Shanghai is rapidly growing. In 2012, the city hosted 780 international gatherings, up from 754 in 2011. The high supply of hotel rooms has kept room rates lower than expected, with the average room rate for four- and five-star hotels in 2012 at RMB 950 (US$ 153). Shanghai has a subtropical climate and experiences four distinct seasons. August is hot and humid, with an average high of 31 °C (88.3 °F) and low of 24.9 (76.8). 

        Shanghai has one of the best education systems in China. Shanghai is a major center of higher education in China with over 30 universities and colleges. A number of China’s most prestigious universities are based in Shanghai, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Tongji University, among others. 

        Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a public research university. It is renowned as one of the oldest and most prestigious and selective universities in China. SJTU has 31 schools and 203 PhD programs. SJTU’s total enrollment is about 45,000. The university has more than 1,900 professors and associate professors. Famous alumni include former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Qian Xuesen, co-founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, and many more.
